Customer Review :
excellent movie with great packaging : Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2-Disc Widescreen Set) (Limited Edition Gift Set with Mini Crystal Skull Replica and Base + Dollar Sideshow Toys Gift Card) (2008)
The movie is a overwhelming return to a excellent character, as Harrison Ford is able to recreate the part with ease. The only other returning character, Marion Ravenwood, doesn't come off as clearly as in her previous outing, but Karen Allen is still thoughprovoking and the easy, natural way Marion and Indy fall back together is more realistic than having them "fall in love again". It is clear that they were always still in love with each other and the simplist of declarations is all that is principal to put their relationship back in full force.
New character Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf) is a credible addition to the Jones family, another young man running away from his heritage. John Hurt makes a great crazy man (but we knew that already) and Ray Winstone's Mac is a nice twist on the primary Indy sidekick. Jim Broadbent makes an proper faux-Marcus and Cate Blanchett chews the landscape deliciously as the Commie badguy. (Who is nothing else but motivated by a foolish love for collectivism - a nice touch.)
If the dialogue is a itsybitsy creaky in places and some of the effects less believable than the previous films, it is more than balanced by the sheer entertainment factor, as well as Ford's protrayal holding the whole thing together. At least it errs on the side of fun, unlike the worst film in the series ('Temple of Doom') that ratcheted up the "darkness".
The "Special Edition" packaging is an actual photo book, helping this one stand out on the shelf from the proper Blu-ray cases. While not worth paying extra, the book is nice and if you can get it at the same price (or near it) as the regular Blu-ray, this is the one to get.
