Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Two-Disc Special Edition) SpecificationsNearly 20 years after riding his last Crusade, Harrison Ford makes a welcome return as archaeologist/relic hunter Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, an action-packed fourth installment that's, in a nutshell, less memorable than the first three but great nostalgia for fans of the series. Producer George Lucas and screenwriter David Koepp (War of the Worlds) set the film during the cold war, as the Soviets--replacing Nazis as Indy's villains of choice and led by a sword-wielding Cate Blanchett with black bob and sunglasses--are in pursuit of a crystal skull, which has mystical powers related to a city of gold. After escaping from them in a spectacular opening action sequence, Indy is coerced to head to Peru at the behest of a young greaser (Shia LaBeouf) whose friend--and Indy's colleague--Professor Oxley (John Hurt) has been captured for his knowledge of the skull's whereabouts. Whatever secrets the skull holds are tertiary; its reveal is the weakest part of the movie, as the CGI effects that inevitably accompany it feel jarring next to the boulder-rolling world of Indy audiences knew and loved. There's plenty of comedy, delightful stunts--ants play a deadly role here--and the return of Raiders love interest Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood, once shrill but now softened, giving her ex-love bemused glances and eye-rolls as he huffs his way to save the day. Which brings us to Ford: bullwhip still in hand, he's a little creakier, a lot grayer, but still twice the action hero of anyone in film today. With all the anticipation and hype leading up to the film's release, perhaps no reunion is sweeter than that of Ford with the role that fits him as snugly as that fedora hat. --Ellen A. Kim

FUNNIEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!! Too bad it isn't a comedy. : Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Two-Disc Special Edition)

THIS is the movie Lucas, Spielberg and Ford were all excited to make??? We've come to expect this sort of childish nonsense from George Lucas, but Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford also thought this was a good idea??? This is an absolutely awful excuse for a movie much less an entry into the Indiana Jones canon.

Fortunately for me I had the time of my life laughing at it's stupidity. I was in tears for most of the whole film because I just couldn't believe how bad it all was and just when I thought what I had just seen was bad enough, something even more ridiculous happened.

Examples:
Only a handful of guards at the US base protecting our most important secrets and artifacts, including the ARK!!!

It seems we've all over-reacted to the threat of atomic bombs as you can just get inside a refrigerator at ground zero and survive it. Oh yeah, then you'll be able to get out of it instead of getting locked inside and dying like others have before.

We also now know that boxers and MMA fighters are just a bunch of fragile weaklings because Indiana Jones took about a 1000 punches to the face and barely had a mark to show for it.

Tarzan swinging??? Are they serious??? He catches up to 2 speeding vehicles doing it!!!

The car scene, where it jumped off the cliff onto a branch and then they drove into the water??? Uh, yeah right.

How about Dr. Jones and company going over not 1, not 2, but 3 WATER FALLS in a freakin military jeep and surviving without or scratch on them!!!

Giant Ants??? Where do you find those?

Mayans just waiting inside the walls to pop out and attack intruders. How did they get in there anyways???

The skull was far too light to be crystal and looked like plastic filled with aluminum foil. Sure was easy to find too.

Every time they get wet, five minutes later their clothes are dry, pressed and cleaned. How about some consistency here?

And then the capper, it's all about........(drum roll)..........ALIENS!!! Yes, our standard, prototypical aliens with elongated heads and a flying saucer. E.T. go home indeed.

And there you have it. Indiana Jones has gained superpowers over the years and an experienced, award winning director has managed to make a movie with all the ability of a 5th grader. Whatever drove Lucas to madness has spread to Spielberg. Somebody put a stop to it before other talented film makers turn out nonsense like this! Oh well, at least I didn't pay for it and I laughed harder and longer during this mess than anything in recent memory. Although, people usually want you to laugh with them, not at them. I hope that's enough for them. I'd still like my 2 hrs. back though.

If you want to see 2 hrs. of what not to do in a movie and enjoy laughing at other peoples mistakes, go right ahead and check this out. But if you value your time, like the other Indiana Jones movies, quality films and consider yourself an intelligent person and like movie makers to treat you like you are, RUN, don't walk away from this movie. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the NUMB Skull.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Special Edition)

It’s hard to imagine that a film with worldwide box office receipts topping 0 million worldwide could be labeled a disappointment, but some moviegoers considered Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the second installment in Steven Spielberg and George Lucas’ 1980s adventure trilogy, to be just that. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad effort; any collaboration between these two cinema giants (Spielberg directed, while Lucas provided the story and was executive producer) is bound to have more than its share of terrific moments, and Temple of Doom is no exception. But in exchanging the very real threat of Nazi Germany for the cartoonish Thuggee cult, it loses some of the heft of its predecessor (Raiders of the Lost Ark); on the other hand, it’s also the darkest and most disturbing of the three films, what with multiple scenes of children enslaved, a heart pulled out of a man’s chest, and the immolation of a sacrificial victim, which makes it less fun than either Raiders or The Last Crusade, notwithstanding a couple of riotous chase scenes and impressively grand sets. Many fans were also less than thrilled with the new love interest, a spoiled, querulous nightclub singer portrayed by Kate Capshaw, but a cute kid sidekick ("Short Round," played by Ke Huy Quan) and, of course, the ever-reliable Harrison Ford as the cynical-but-swashbuckling hero more than make up for that character’s shortcomings.

A six-minute introduction by Lucas and Spielberg is the prime special feature, with both men candidly addressing the film’s good and bad points (Lucas points out that the second Star Wars film, The Empire Strikes Back, was also the darkest of the original three; as for Spielberg, the fact that the leading lady would soon become his wife was the best part of the whole trip). Also good are "The Creepy Crawlies," a mini-doc about the thousands of snakes, bugs, rats and other scary critters that populate the trilogy, and "Travels with Indy," a look at some of the films’ cool locations. Storyboards and a photo gallery are included as well. --Sam Graham.../ Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Special Edition) / indiana jones dvd

Indiana's Darkest Adventure : Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Special Edition)

This 1984 sequel to the 1981 classic "Raiders Of The Lost Ark", is a real important film to me. I saw it 11 times in the theaters and I was mesmerized. I hadn't seen anything like it before. It's one of those films that brings back great memories from your youth. Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford all return for this chapter. It takes place 10 years later, and Indy is joined by a nightclub singer, Willie Scott(Kate Capshaw), and a young sidekick named Short Round(Ke Huy - Quan from "The Goonies"), on a mission to find and rescue young children who have been kidnapped from a small village by some sort of cult. Indy and his gang infiltrate this incredible palace, only to discover the horror that lurks below the place. This film definitley has the Saturday morning serial cliffhanger thing going here. More so than the first and third installments. This movie is a little darker and more violent than "Raiders". Some fans didn't think that was such a good thing. Their loss. This movie is a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end. It's a movie that never stops being entertaining. There are a number of classic scenes in here, like - The mine cart chase, the airplane scene, the water out the side of the mountain, the rope bridge. You know it's a good movie when you can think of a number of good scenes like that. Once again, Spielberg has a nice eye for details. Ford is the most charismatic hero of the century. No one comes close. Capshaw and Quan are on hand mostly for comedic support. Just lay back, get some popcorn, and get ready to have your spines tingled when Indy's theme song starts....

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Special Edition) OverviewsThe third installment in the widely beloved Spielberg/Lucas Indiana Jones saga begins with an introduction to a younger Indy (played by the late River Phoenix), who, through a fast-paced prologue, gives the audience insight into the roots of his taste for adventure, fear of snakes, and dogged determination to take historical artifacts out of the hands of bad guys and into the museums in which they belong. A grown-up Indy (Harrison Ford) reveals himself shortly afterward in a familiar classroom scene, teaching archeology to a disproportionate number of starry-eyed female college students in 1938. Once again, however, Mr. Jones is drawn away from his day job after an art collector (Julian Glover) approaches him with a proposition to find the much sought after Holy Grail. Circumstances reveal that there was another avid archeologist in search of the famed cup — Indiana Jones' father, Dr. Henry Jones (Sean Connery) — who had recently disappeared during his efforts. The junior and senior members of the Jones family find themselves in a series of tough situations in locales ranging from Venice to the most treacherous spots in the Middle East. Complicating the situation further is the presence of Elsa (Alison Doody), a beautiful and intelligent woman with one fatal flaw: she's an undercover Nazi agent. The search for the grail is a dangerous quest, and its discovery may prove fatal to those who seek it for personal gain. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade earned a then record-breaking million in its first week of release..../ Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Special Edition) / indiana jones dvd

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Special Edition) SpecificationsNot as good as the first one, but better than the second. That’s been the consensus opinion regarding Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the final installment in Steven Spielberg and George Lucas’ original adventure trilogy, throughout the nearly two decades since its 1989 theatrical release. It’s a fair assessment. After the relatively dark and disturbing Temple of Doom (1984), The Last Crusade (1989) recalls the sheer fun of Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). With its variety of colorful locations, multiple chase scenes (the opening sequence on a circus train, with River Phoenix as the young Indy, is one of the best of the series, as is the boat chase through the canals of Venice), and cloak-and-dagger vibe, it’s the closest in tone to a James Bond outing, which director Spielberg has noted was the inspiration for the trilogy in the first place; what’s more, it harkens back to Raiders in its choice of villains (i.e., the Nazis--Indy even comes face to face with Hitler at a rally in Berlin) and its quest for an antiquity of incalculable value and significance (the Holy Grail, the chalice said to have been the receptacle of Christ's blood as he hung on the cross). Add to that the presence of Sean Connery, playing Indy’s father and having a field day opposite Harrison Ford, and you’ve got a most welcome return to form.

Special features include a six-minute introduction by Spielberg and Lucas, who discuss the grail as a metaphor for bringing Indy and his estranged father together and agree that Crusade is the funniest of the three films; "Indy’s Women," an American Film Institute tribute with leading ladies Karen Allen, Kate Capshaw, and Alison Doody each discussing her character (Capshaw candidly describes Temple of Doom’s Willie Scott as "whiny, petulant, and annoying"); "Indy’s Friends and Enemies," a look at the films’ various villains and sidekicks; plus storyboards and photo galleries. --Sam Graham.../ Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Special Edition) / indiana jones dvd

Another fine Indiana Jones film! : Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Special Edition)

The third installment of the Indiana Jones series,Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,is another fantastic adventure.(it's not as good as Raiders of the Lost Ark,but at least as good,if not better than Temple of Doom.)The film starts out in 1912 in Utah, and shows Indy as a teenager, played by River Phoenix. Then it shifts to 1938 and Indy winds up battling Nazis again, this time teaming up with his father Henry Jones(played wonderfully by THE James Bond,Sean Connery)to find the Holy Grail.Of course Harrison Ford is great as Indy, and the rest of the cast is very good, too, including Alison Doody as Dr.Elsa Schneider,John Rhys Davies as Sallah,Denholm Elliot as Marcus Brody, and Julian Glover as Donovan. There's loads of action, and the musical score by John Williams is great.Overall,it's a great movie and a fine collaboration of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Single-Disc Edition)
Steven Spielberg and George Lucas bring you the greatest adventurer of all time in “a nonstop thrill ride” (Richard Corliss, TIME) that’s packed with “sensational, awe-inspiring spectacles” (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times). Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull finds Indy (Harrison Ford) trying to outrace a brilliant and beautiful agent (Cate Blanchett) for the mystical, all-powerful Crystal Skull of Akator. Teaming up with a rebellious young biker (Shia LaBeouf) and his spirited original love Marion (Karen Allen), Indy takes you on a breathtaking action-packed adventure in the exciting tradition of the classic Indiana Jones movies!.../ Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Single-Disc Edition) / indiana jones dvd

George Lucas Does It to Indy This Time : Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Single-Disc Edition)

Now, I'm not a huge fan of the original films, but I always found them enjoyable. They're kind of comfort movies. Great fun with some witty dialog and believable action. So, when this newest installment hit the theaters, I didn't rush out to go see it. I knew I'd get around to it eventually. And thank goodness I skipped the theaters because this film is a verifiable mess from beginning to end.

From the laughable opening sequence I knew we were in trouble. Things only got worse from there with the introduction of "Mutt" who was essentially put into a Brando costume (what were they thinking?) and is given the most annoying dialog ever. The we meet Cate Blanchett's character. Now Blanchett is one of the best actresses around, but she obviously watched way too much Rocky & Bullwinkle as prep for this movie. She is so very much Natasha that I expected John Astin to come around the corner any minute as Boris. Over the top doesn't even describe her performance.

But what killed this for me the most was the absolutely insipid action sequences. While the other films always stretched the believability factor with the action, it always remained fun and somewhat rooted in reality. Here, it is all so unbelievable (falling over three waterfalls and no one is hurt?) and done so badly it ruins not only the film but the series. I wish someone would tell George Lucas that CGI is not he answer to everything and I certainly wished he hadn't convinced Spielberg that it was. He made a mess of the Star Wars films and now he got his computer generated claws into Indy. The CGI and green screen is shockingly bad in this film and ILM (if they are the ones who committed this atrocity) should be shamed of themselves.

It was nice to see Karen Allen again, but like everything else in this movie she is so far over the top it is laughable.

It is said that Sean Connery refused to reprise his role in this film and I absolutely understand why. And to show the height of laziness behind this picture, the writer and director weren't even smart enough to take out a line of dialog which clearly referenced Connery. "You brought a knife to a gunfight." Yeah, they'll say it was an homage, but it was just plain sloppy, like tis whole movie.

In the end, Indy should have hung up his fedora with movie #3 and left us with a good taste in our mouths rather than the bitter aftertaste of this horrible film.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (Special Edition) OverviewsIndiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is no ordinary archeologist. When we first see him, he is somewhere in the Peruvian jungle in 1936, running a booby-trapped gauntlet (complete with an over-sized rolling boulder) to fetch a solid-gold idol. He loses this artifact to his chief rival, a French archeologist named Belloq (Paul Freeman), who then prepares to kill our hero. In the first of many serial-like escapes, Indy eludes Belloq by hopping into a convenient plane. So, then: is Indiana Jones afraid of anything? Yes, snakes. The next time we see Jones, he's a soft-spoken, bespectacled professor. He is then summoned from his ivy-covered environs by Marcus Brody (Denholm Elliott) to find the long-lost Ark of the Covenant. The Nazis, it seems, are already searching for the Ark, which the mystical-minded Hitler hopes to use to make his stormtroopers invincible. But to find the Ark, Indy must first secure a medallion kept under the protection of Indy's old friend Abner Ravenwood, whose daughter, Marion (Karen Allen), evidently has a "history" with Jones. Whatever their personal differences, Indy and Marion become partners in one action-packed adventure after another, ranging from wandering the snake pits of the Well of Souls to surviving the pyrotechnic unearthing of the sacred Ark. A joint project of Hollywood prodigies George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, with a script co-written by Lawrence Kasdan and Philip Kaufman, among others, Raiders of the Lost Ark is not so much a movie as a 115-minute thrill ride. Costing 22 million dollars (nearly three times the original estimate), Raiders of the Lost Ark reaped 200 million dollars during its first run. It was followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1985) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), as well as a short-lived TV-series "prequel.".../ Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (Special Edition) / indiana jones dvd

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (Special Edition) SpecificationsIt’s said that the original is the greatest, and there can be no more vivid proof than Raiders of the Lost Ark, the first and indisputably best of the initial three Indiana Jones adventures cooked up by the dream team of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. Expectations were high for this 1981 collaboration between the two men, who essentially invented the box office blockbuster with ‘70s efforts like Jaws and Star Wars, and Spielberg (who directed) and Lucas (who co-wrote the story and executive produced) didn’t disappoint. This wildly entertaining film has it all: non-stop action, exotic locations, grand spectacle, a hero for the ages, despicable villains, a beautiful love interest, humor, horror… not to mention lots of snakes. And along with all the bits that are so familiar by now--Indy (Harrison Ford) running from the giant boulder in a cave, using his pistol instead of his trusty whip to take out a scimitar-wielding bad guy, facing off with a hissing cobra, and on and on--there’s real resonance in a potent storyline that brings together a profound religious-archaeological icon (the Ark of the Covenant, nothing less than "a radio for speaking to God") and the 20th century’s most infamous criminals (the Nazis). Now that’s entertainment. --Sam Graham.../ Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (Special Edition) / indiana jones dvd

THE Classic Action Movie : Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (Special Edition)

"Raiders..." is one of my all-time favorite movies. Harrison Ford plays Dr. Indiana Jones, college archeology professor. In his spare time, he also hunts for lost historical artifacts. Set in 1936, "Raiders..." finds the U.S. government concerned over reports that the Nazis are close to finding an ancient artifact of enormous historical and religious signifcance. It may also have great power. Intrigued, Indy takes up the quest to find the artifact first. What follows is a classic Saturday-matinee adventure that never lets up. It's got action, suspense, romance and humor. There are a number of famous scenes, here (i.e. Indy fleeing the huge stone ball or Indy and the sword-wielding assassin) and the acting is fine. Ford gives Dr. Jones a modest, boy-next-door charm to go with his two-fisted, death-defying persona. Karen Allen plays Marian, Indy's old flame, and is a terrific match. She is tough and self-sufficient one moment, vulnerable and sexy the next. On top of all that, you've got George Lucas writing and producing, and Steven Spielberg directing. Great stunt work, too. There isn't much more you could ask for.

Is there anyone out there who is actually unfamiliar with this movie? If there is, and you're reading this, where have you been? Get it and watch it. It's just pure fun from beginning to end. The only downer is that they only made two more Indiana Jones movies after this, and Harrison Ford isn't getting any younger. There are scads of James Bond movies, so why can't they get it together and make a few more of these. But I digress. Get "Raiders..." if you haven't already got a copy. It's one of the very best. On a scale of one to five stars, this flick gets about ten. It's THAT good.
